Take a step back in time at the Shaffner Inn. This extravagant white and green Tudor Revival style residence was built in 1907, as a private residence for Henry Fries Shaffner, co-founder of Wachovia Loan and Trust. It boasts of elegance with its grand staircase, Tiger Oak hand-carved paneling, 9 original fireplaces, a wraparound enclosed porch, and dormer casements that emulate historic English lead-glass windows, all surrounded by handsome antiques. The Shaffner Inn is open to the public, offering 8 overnight guest rooms, meeting and event space, on-site parking and a full-service restaurant.
Founders Restaurant, located in The Shaffner Inn, is a delicious breakfast, brunch and lunch restaurant. The unique location influences the historic decor and fun mismatched china that compliment the era of the home. The menu is anything but traditional, however, starting with the drink menu that has fun mimosas, an incredible Bloody Mary, and amazing cocktails. Their specialities include a New Orleans Style Shrimp and Grits, Texas Pete Honey Chicken and Waffles and Chef’s Choice Avocado Toast (which changes weekly). They serve breakfast and lunch Tuesday- Friday from 8:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m. and brunch on Saturday and Sunday from 8:00 a.m.- 2:00 p.m.. Reservations are recommended on the week. They are closed on Mondays.
