About
Girls on the Run of the Greater Piedmont started in the spring of 2008 with just 4 teams of 48 girls and 8 volunteer coaches from Iredell County. Today we serve Alexander, Davidson, Davie, Forsyth, Guilford, Iredell, Rowan, & Yadkin Counties and support 70 teams and approximately 1000 girls annually thanks to the support of 225 volunteer coaches. Due to the generosity of our sponsors and donors, we are able to provide financial assistance to 40% of our girls who otherwise would not have been able to participate.
At Girls on the Run we inspire girls to recognize their inner strength and celebrate what makes them one of a kind. Trained coaches lead small teams through our research-based curricula which includes dynamic discussions, activities, and running games. Throughout the ten-week program, girls in 3rd-8th grade develop essential skills to help them navigate their worlds and establish a lifetime appreciation for health and fitness. The program culminates with girls positively impacting their communities through a service project and being physically and emotionally prepared to complete a celebratory 5K event. Each season we put on a 5k for girls, their families, and community runners. These events require the support of donors, community groups, and volunteers.
